Brooklyn used to be that borough where artists, creatives, and those who wanted to live in Manhattan but couldn’t afford it resided ‒ a place you might catch a glimpse of from your taxi on your way into the city from JFK, calling for nothing more than an absentminded glance. Today, Brooklyn holds its own as a destination. A mecca of local roasteries, old school pizzerias and intimate ramen bars that locals try to keep secret and travellers long to discover. While it might be referred to by some as a gentrified “hipster hell”, if you’re willing to wander from the beaten path, you’ll find that Brooklyn still has some of that underground charm – albeit maybe slightly more underground than before.
